Science lecture about engineering instructive biomaterials for regenerative medicine
5 november 2020 @ 12:00 - 13:30
Regeneration can be described as the body’s intrinsic capacity to repair damaged and diseased organs and tissue and restore their normal function. In the case of severe damage, or when the patient suffers from, for example, a chronic disease, this capacity is often insufficient and an intervention is needed to trigger and help to body in the process of regeneration. Approaches to do so belong to the field of regenerative medicine. Regenerative strategies based on synthetic biomaterials are becoming increasingly attractive as an alternative to strategies based on tissue, cells or growth factors, because they are relatively inexpensive, off-the-shelf available and adaptable to requirements of individual clinical application.
